After the treaty of Utrecht In the 17th century, Minorca and a few other areas came into British Possession. At that time, British people brought their guard dogs and fighting dogs along with them to the Balearics.
They crossed this breed with the native mastiff of the Iberian Peninsula.
At the beginning of the 18th century, when bloodsport fighting between bulls and dogs called bull-baiting was very popular, this breed was found suitable for this sport, and as per the situation, this breed got the name “Ca de Bou”, which means Bull-dog.
As per the Spanish studbook in 1923, this breed already existed.
In 1928 and in 1929, the Perro de Presa Mallorquin got the first official entry into the dog show in Barcelona and this bulldog was exhibited.
The Perro de Presa Mallorquin was recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) in 1964.
